| Mayor Mark Powell was the Democrat party candidate for Missouri State Treasurer in 2004. Against overwhelming odds, Mark was the landslide winner in the August primary three way battle. Despite being outspent by a 10 to 1 margin, Mayor Powell ran an amazingly close race in November by traveling over 50,000 miles around the state of Missouri meeting people and sharing his message. Below are excerpts from various media about Mark's campaign: |
| The Kansas City Star: "Powell is a refreshing difference from the usual politician." The St. Louis Post-Dispatch: "...the edge in experience goes to Mark Powell." The Columbia Daily Tribune: "Powell has good experience as an accountant, banker and professional financial expert...quite open minded and smart and easy to approach." The Hannibal Courier-Post: "...Because the treasurer's primary job is to manage money, we believe that Powell is better qualified to serve..." |
